Watching the Gaza events unfold, I am left utterly helpless and deeply disturbed. I wish I could do more. If only I knew what “more” entailed.
I pray for peace to enshroud their city and for happiness to stitch their tattered lives.
A piece written by a friend, Nashwa, aptly words what many feel.
Why Gaza?
Why Gaza, why not me my friend?
Why point your gun their way?
You gave them their lightless night
And now their darkest day
If only for an hour or two
I could take the blame
Just let them have a chance or two
To wipe away the stains
Why Gaza, why not me my friend?
When all they’ve known is pain
Why not push the barrel a turn or two
And choose a different aim
I’m tugging at your sleeves my friend
Just look me in the eyes
Why Gaza, why not me my friend?
It’s me you should despise
